iOS and Android MMO Firefly Online Announced

SAN DIEGO, Calif. July 19 - Fans of Joss Whedon's space western series, Firefly, get stoked... okay, well maybe not. An MMO based on the cult television series called Firefly Online is set to release in summer 2014  Fox Digital Entertainment announced on Comic Con yesterday, Den of Geek reports. Exciting? Unfortunately the game is being released for iOS and Android devices.

Players will act as a ship captain and can "hire a crew and lead missions, while trading with and competing against millions of other players like themselves".

Following the idealogy of the show itself, players will have to "find a crew, find a job and keep flying."
The game is being developed by QMXi and Spark Plug Games, the creator of the official Super 8 camera app and the studio that brought Puzzle Quest 2 to iOS devices respectively.

Firefly will feature "unique social features" allowing cross-platform and cross-device support.
Firefly Online was originally announced back in December 2006, but developing studio Multiverse shuttered, ending the project's chances at release.
