RUMOR: Microsoft's Interactive Entertainment Boss to Leave Firm for Zynga CEO Position

REDMOND, Wa. July 1 - President of Microsoft's Interactive Entertainment Business, Don Mattrick, is leaving the Redmond-based firm, according to AllThingsD sources "close to the situation".

Mattrick's next residence will be a top ranking position at Zynga, the sources added, possibly as the social gaming company's CEO.

Announcements of Mattrick's new appointment could be made as soon as today following the market's closure.

If true, Mattrick will be taking the reins from Zynga's founder and sole CEO, Mark Pincus. Zynga's shortcomings can be attributed to the company's slow adoption of mobile gaming, Pincus explained during the company's earnings call in October of last year. The company originally founded in conjunction with blossoming social network, Facebook, saw huge success with its most well known title, Farmville back in 2009, but eventually waned since the advent rise of mobile gaming. The San Francisco-based firm then suffered a series of lay offs and in an effort towards recovery.

Public perception of Mattrick may not be ill considering the Microsoft's original Xbox One DRM and always-online policies, which after some rumination was wisely revised.
Mattrick has been a part of the Microsoft family since 2007. According to his bio, “since Mattrick began overseeing the Xbox division, the Xbox 360 installed base grew from 10 million to nearly 80 million worldwide while Xbox Live membership increased from 6 million to nearly 50 million.”
