Professional League of Legends Players are "Professional Athletes", Deems US Government

SANTA MONICA, Calif. July 12 - Professional League of Legends players are considered professional athletes, according to the US government, which began issuing visas to international LoL players that categorized them under the title.
"The United States government recognizes League of Legends pro players as professional athletes, and awards visas to essentially work in the United States under that title,"Riot Games eSports manager Nick Allen told GameSpot in an interview. He noted that this move is "groundbreaking for eSports".

Yesterday, Riot Games announced that the League of Legends Season 3 Championship finals will be hosted at the Los Angeles Staples Center on October 4, yep, the home court of the LA Lakers.
