Valve's sequel to the multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) that started it all, Dota 2, has concluded its beta testing phase the firm announced on Tuesday. The free-to-play title is available via Steam, but newcomers will have to wait through a "launch queue" before they can experience the now officially released game.
According to Valve, the company wants the transition to occur "in a way that isn't frustrating" to both players old and new.
"Dota 2's user base is already larger than any game we've ever made, and it continues to grow," Valve stated. "Knowing this launch moment was coming, we've spent the past year working on getting both the backend infrastructure and new user experience into a state where we can welcome in anyone that wants to give the game a try."
Valve has previously announced that Dota 2's monthly user base is larger than 3M players, with peak concurrent users surpassing 300,000. In today's announcement Valve stated that it has expanded a backend infrastructure that is capable of hosting an additional 450,000 concurrent users in accommodation for the game's public launch.
Dota 2 is currently available only for Windows PC with Mac and Linux versions coming "soon".
