Klei Entertainment Announces Incognita, a "Turn-Based Tactical Espionage" Game Inspired by XCOM

VANCOUVER, Canada. July 2 - Creators of Don't Starve and Mark of the Ninja, Klei Entertainment are working on their next title, a "turn-based tactical espionage" game called Incognita, Studio founder Jamie Cheng revealed on Twitter today. The game focuses on thievery as players are tasked in cracking the most secure places in the world.

"In the majority of turn-based games, positioning is your number one priority," studio founder Jamie Cheng told IGN. "From our standpoint, we wanted to make a game where information is one of the key things that you want."

Cheng compared Klei's Incognita to one of the studio's primary inspirations, 2K's XCOM: Enemy Unknown - XCOM is 10% about information, 90% is "putting your guys in the right places and holding position". Incognita reverses those priorities. "If you’re caught in the wrong place, you’re going to die. So you need to hack, secure security cameras, you need to find out where enemies are and be smart about it," Cheng said. If caught, your team can die and permanent death plays a factor in the game much like XCOM.
The levels are randomly generated to keep players on their toes, forcing them to acquire new information every time they play the game.
