BioWare Concept Artist Matt Rhodes Shares Rejected Work

MONTREAL, Canada. July 24 - Concept artists may tend to keep their "less pretty, less refined work hidden away", and this could paint a "disingenuous image of the roll [sic] of concept artists," BioWare concept artist Matt Rhodes wrote on his blog yesterday.

To repaint a more accurate image, Rhodes revealed a handful of his unused concept art for BioWare's Mass Effect and Dragon Ages series.

According to Rhodes, his inspiration to share his rejected artwork came from friend and Red Dead Redemption concept artist Hethe Srodawa who himself showcased dismissed work on his personal blog in May.

"Concept art is a strange business," Rhodes wrote. "There's all sorts of odd jobs, rabbit trails, misfires and victories. As I said earlier, you never know how to design a game until it's finished. All we can do is keep running out into the darkness, lighting torches until we find something good."
Check out Rhodes' blog to see his, in my opinion, beautiful pieces of unused artwork.
