The Industry Isn't Just Straight White Men, Says BioWare Writer

MONTREAL, Canada. August 13 - The perception that the gaming industry is filled only with straight white men is wrong. BioWare writer, David Gaider, explained to Gamasutra in an interview published today. "And while they're certainly the majority, that's not to say there aren't many other people comprising the industry as well".

In order for studios to understand and appeal to "broader viewpoints", those with differing perspectives need to join the ranks, a prospect deterred by the supposed male chauvinistic environment, according to Gaider.

"Someone who doesn't conform to the perceived norm might think they don't have a chance of getting into the industry--a gay person might think, 'oh, there's no point in applying. I don't want to work in a frat house'", Gaider said.

The majority of the Dragon Age series writers consist of women, Gaider pointed out.

BioWare is well-known for supporting gay rights, featuring romance paths that involve same-sex relationships. Dragon Age: inquisition launches in 2014 for next gen consoles Xbox 720, PS4, along with Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.
