BELLEVUE, Wa. August 13 - Dota 2's annually held and the game's biggest tournament, The International, was greeted by an appropriate response by viewers from all over the world.
Spectatorship peaked at 1M concurrent viewers, double that of last year's event, Valve announced today. The figure comes from stream provider Twitch, Gamefy in China, and Valve's own spectating services.
Winning the event and the sizable $1.43M first place prize is Sweden's Alliance. The team's victory is well deserved as Alliance went 14-0, beating out second place competitor Na'Vi in the finals 3-2 (a series worth watching for anyone familiar with the game).
The total prize pool for The International 3 was $2.87M, marking the Valve's competition to be the largest prize pool of any competitive gaming event.
